South Lawson Park Bushcare Group

South Lawson Park Bushcare Group

South Lawson Park Bushcare Group, a member of Blue Mountains City Council's Bushcare programme, is celebrating the tenth anniversary of its formation and activities.

The Group, under the guidance of a BMCC Bushcare officer, works in the area bounded by Waratah Street, Honour Avenue and John Street, South Lawson, and meets on the third Sunday of each month, from 10am to 12 noon.

The group also conducts a Streamwatch session in Lawson creek after each bushcare session, and this usually lasts for about half an hour.

Much has been achieved over the last ten years! Masses of invasive weeds such as honeysuckle, privet and montbretia have been removed, and new plantings of native grasses, groundcovers, shrubs and trees have been established.

Walking tracks have been maintained and fragile areas with erosion problems have been stabilised. This all helps to maintain the integrity of our World Heritage National Park system and the Hawkesbury Nepean water catchment area.
